Di recente, è stato annunciato un prequel di John Rambo, con Noah Centineo e diretto da Jalmari Helander, già noto per Sisu: l'ultimo grande sviluppo per il progetto è che Sylvester Stallone, noto per aver interpretato Rambo nella saga originale, sarà il produttore esecutivo del prequel. Sylvester Stallone ha interpretato John Rambo in cinque film: Rambo (1982), Rambo - La vendetta II (1985), Rambo III (1988), John Rambo (2008) e Rambo - Last blood (2019). Oltre a Centineo, nel cast figurano anche Yao, noto per aver interpretato Bo Chow in Sinners, Jason Tobin, famoso per A Thousand Blows, la star di Yellowstone Jefferson White, l'attore di The White Lotus Tayme Thapthimthong e Quincy Isaiah, noto per Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.
