In a recent study, my co-authors -- Matthew Clance, Romuald Meango, and Charl van Schoor -- and I used natural language processing to examine the use of gendered language in peace agreements reached between 1990 and 2023. As a 2018 analysis found, there is a "robust correlation" between the inclusion of female delegates as signatories of peace agreements and the durability of the ensuing peace. Rather, supporting women's agency in making peace and forging the post-conflict future demands concrete, enforceable measures to uphold women's rights and expand their participation in all forms of decision-making.
