The free agent slugger was one of the Pirates’ top offseason targets but joined the Toronto Blue Jays instead, signing a four-year, $60 million deal with the reigning American League champs. He’s been one of the most consistent sluggers in the sport over the last decade, averaging 31 homers, 88 RBI, 2.5 WAR and an .801 OPS per season. The Pirates still have some money to spend, so they’ll likely make a strong push for Suarez over the next few weeks now that Okamoto is off the board.
