A "representative sample" of five building types of the precinct were listed on the ACT Heritage Register and as a condition of buying the block, developers had to retain and preserve the heritage, which included the buildings and the curtilage — landscaping, paths and trees. "But I do think that it's really important to look at the buildings that we have around us and to really carefully decide which ones we want to keep and adapt to a modern future … and which ones we can let go and and replace with something new," she said. "It's about looking at the spaces in between, about looking at the value of that building both in terms of the social and legacy input, but also the environmental load that it's got.
