U.S. pushes to widen talks with Iran beyond nuclear issue despite Tehran's refusal


Differences over the scope of the talks and lack of agreement on a venue raised doubts whether the meeting would take place, leaving open the possibility that U.S. President Donald Trump could carry out his threat to strike Iran. But he added that talks would ‍have to include the range of Iran's ‍ballistic missiles, its support for groups around the Middle East and its treatment of its own people, besides the nuclear dispute. Plans for the talks, to be mediated by several countries, were still being finalised, the Gulf official said, adding that the discussions would start on the nuclear issue and then move to other topics on a step-by-step basis.
