The activity is similar to last year when the US moved in air-defence hardware, such as a Patriot missile system, in anticipation of an Iranian counterattack following the bombing of three key nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan — in June during the 12-day Israel-Iran war. A commander from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the multi-service primary branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, issued a warning to Iran's neighbours to keep out of conflict with the US on Tuesday. Ahmad "Abu Hussein" al-Hamidawi, the leader of Iraq's Kataib Hezbollah militia, warned "the enemies that the war on the [Islamic] Republic will not be a picnic; rather, you will taste the bitterest forms of death, and nothing will remain of you in our region".
