Union 'turf war' dominates second week of Queensland CFMEU inquiry

Summoned to testify at a commission of inquiry into the state division of the CFMEU, Stacey Schinnerl — the Australian Workers' Union (AWU) state secretary — laid bare for the first time the personal toll of "prolonged" alleged harassment and abuse by the militant union which left her living in "perpetual fear". Ms Schinnerl outlined a timeline of the long-running "war" between the rival construction groups, telling the inquiry the AWU experienced rising "volatility" in 2019 as the CFMEU tried to expand its foothold on Brisbane civil construction sites. She told the inquiry the turning point occurred at a state Labor Party conference when she made a "quip" about the CFMEU "storming" a government building that enraged former secretary Michael Ravbar.
