The statements were shared on the band’s Instagram and website, alongside the following joint message: “Everyone has long been horrified by what is unfolding in Gaza - but the blocking of humanitarian aid and now plans for a military takeover of Gaza City has taken the conflict into uncharted territory. Bono went on to condemn former Hamas chairman Yahya Sinwar and call the October 7 attacks “a diabolical trap for Israel and to get a war going that might just redraw the map from ‘The river to the sea.’” He drew parallels to the 2015 terrorist attack at Paris’ Bataclan theater. While he accused both Hamas and Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war, Bono clarified his belief that “the Government of Israel led by Benjamin Netanyahu today deserves our categorical and unequivocal condemnation.” Bono concluded his note by avowing his belief in a two-state solution, affirming U2’s solidarity with “the people of Palestine who truly seek a path to peace and coexistence with Israel,” and urging Israeli citizens to demand that humanitarian aid organizations are allowed into Gaza and the West Bank.
