At a recent meeting, chaired by deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, it was decided that the tourism department would soon notify a coastal tourism policy and formally set up a tourism board.Karnataka has a 320km of coastline that stretches across three districts – Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi. "That is why, besides a tourism development board, we are in the process of setting up a programme management unit in Mangaluru with the specific mandate of developing tourism in coastal Karnataka. "The programme management unit will function under the guidance of a leading consultancy firm.As part of the plan, five locations have been identified for projects under a public-private partnership model: Trasi Maravanthe Beach, Kodi Kundapura Beach, Barkur Fort in Udupi district, and Kodikal and Thannirbavi Blue Flag Beach in Dakshina Kannada district.
