Whether through respect for the institutions, respect for our civics studies teachers, or the logical belief that the cream rises to the top, we grant our elected leaders a level of intelligence and wisdom that they haven’t necessarily earned. You are simply not that bright if you think fighting to make streets safer is a bad thing; that it’s a good thing if the first impression those arriving at Union Station get of our nation’s capital is a vagrant taking a dump on the polished floors. The only alternative is they have a pathological hatred for the American people, for life, for the health of children … for themselves.
