Under the leadership of President Trump, the White House announced, the United States and Ukraine have entered into ‘a historic, first-of-its-kind partnership’: Ukraine is handing over its natural resources – minerals such as rare earths, uranium, lithium and others, estimated to be worth $13 trillion, plus oil and gas – to the United States, which will entrust US companies with exploiting them. This partnership, says the White House, ‘sends a strong message to Russia that the United States is in the game and committed to Ukraine’s long-term success. The first planned deals “strengthen the defence industry, our energy security, technological leadership and access to global infrastructure and critical minerals.” Further Saudi investment in the US is expected to bring the total to $1 trillion.
