Trump taps Rep. Elise Stefanik to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations

When she was elected in 2014 to the House, she was just 30 years old and the youngest woman elected to Congress at the time. She voted for aid to Ukraine in 2022 at the start of that war but was the only member of House Republican leadership to vote no on this last package of $61 billion back in April. In terms of diplomacy with Trump stepping back from alliances, it seems like that will affect her role at the U.N. And that's also reflected in a statement that she put out today that says, quote, "America continues to be the beacon of the world, but we expect and must demand that our friends and allies be strong partners in the peace we seek."
