Omar condemned the shooting and said, “All I could think about was his wife, his children.” But conservatives have pounced on her criticisms of the conservative influencer since the shooting. Omar immigrated to the U.S. from Kenya after she fled her native Somalia in the early 1990s to escape the civil war there. Last year, Kirk seized on comments by Omar to claim she is more loyal to Somalia than the U.S. and that she should be deported.
