President Donald Trump boldly declared that he believes the U.S. has “won” the war on Iran, despite ongoing airstrikes across the region, as well as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Last week, the president announced the U.S. military “totally obliterated every military target” on Kharg Island, which processes 90% of Iran’s oil exports. Later on Friday, the president said on Truth Social that he is “considering winding down” the war, though thousands of U.S. Marines are headed to the region for a potential ground operation.
