Reorienting and retraining our security operatives: Nigeria lacks a police force trained to serve the public and maintain law and order; what we have is a ragtag organisation that protects the powerful and privileged while harassing and extorting the rest. Through the integrated intelligence mechanism, seal all porous borders and corridors identified as major illegal arms and human trafficking routes; and send a clear message by arresting and prosecuting at least three high-profile politicians or military officers involved in bandit–elite collusion within 60 days. Directly and aggressively tackle poverty and youth unemployment in conflict zones, prioritising the North-East and North-West, with a focus on irrigation and mechanised agriculture (to address food insecurity) and vocational/technical training (to absorb unemployed youth and rehabilitated combatants).
