According to Dairy Queen, soft serve ice cream was invented in 1938 by John Fremont McCullough and his son Alex, who opened the first Dairy Queen in 1940. Post-it Notes were invented in 1974, the same year the first item with a barcode was scanned in a supermarket. Nintendo's Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was released in the US in 1985 and is credited with revitalizing the American video game market.
