Two driving forces have shaped Israel's war in Gaza since October 7, 2023: the goal of destroying Hamas and the desire for revenge for the horrific massacre and utter humiliation the country suffered. The first dictated the Israel Defense Forces' cold military operations, while the second provided a "moral" veneer that justified killing tens of thousands of Palestinian children, the sick, the elderly, doctors and nurses, and leveling entire cities across the Strip. This is how revenge turned into a strategic component of the military campaign.
