The spinoff series, which Wyatt Russell will also produce, “follows the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.” That’s interesting because, on Monarch, Wyatt plays Shaw in the 1950s, so this will tell a story kind of in the middle of the events on that show. Also as part of the news, Apple and Legendary announced that Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold will showrun and become the new overseer of the Monsterverse, responsible for this new show, Monarch, and whatever else might be in the works. That show expanded a connected universe that began on the big screen with 2014’s Godzilla, then continued into 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, and then 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
