But after it ended, one of the creators left the show, and the remaining creator’s two-season plan morphed into a one-more-and-done rushjob before he follows suit, leaves The Last of Us behind, and moves on to adapt a different video game. Despite everything, I still hope that Mazin and HBO will give The Last of Us the time and care and breathing room it needs for a proper conclusion, whether it’s all in season 3 or if a season 4 is still on the table. Even if the third season just covers Abby’s time in Seattle and saves the Santa Barbara epilogue for season 4, it’ll need more than seven episodes to capture the breadth of the war between the Wolves and the scars, and give Abby’s burgeoning sibling bond with Lev the time it needs to develop.
