The mandates of the committee is to among others, to address and resolve the internal crisis within the party in the state, investigate the root cause(s) of factionalism and disunity in the state chapter of the party and to engage key stakeholders and party organs to achieve reconciliation, propose structural, procedural, and strategic reforms for sustainable peace and political cohesion. Recalling the genesis of the crisis, the state Publicity Secretary of the Austin Agada-led State Working Committee of the party, Daniel Ihomun, stated that the governor’s lack of recognition for the party stakeholders led to the factionalisation of the party in the state. But the publicity secretary of the caretaker committee of the party loyal to Alia, James Orngunga, argued that the crisis in the party arose as a result of the party stakeholders not recognising that the governor remained the leader of the party in the state.
