In the fallout of the Tucker and Bichette signings, there has been speculation that the Blue Jays could take the money they were looking to give those two and invest it in Yankees star Cody Bellinger. So while the team has a reputation for spending big in free agency, it isn’t completely shocking that they are not willing to join the trend of huge yearly salaries for free agents despite the serious risks to their lineup next season. It means that if the Blue Jays or the NY Mets are willing to go higher than the Yankees’ yearly average of $32 million, they could add a pretty good defender and bat to their lineups for 2026 and beyond.
