With the reminder that the original X-Men trilogy was one of the first major superhero blockbuster successes, the decision to lean into realism (at least in this case) was 100% the right way to go. In the MCU, some of the biggest examples include Civil War's Sokovia Accords, Secret Invasion's anti-alien sentiments from the government, Mayor Fisk's war on vigilantes in Daredevil: Born Again, Wonder Man's Doorman Clause banning superpowers in Hollywood, and the gradual militarization of the MCU's Department of Damage Control, which is now surveilling powered individuals. Ultimately, X2 is my favorite in Fox's original X-Men trilogy for good reason: it puts the biggest and very best spotlight on the challenges and threats facing mutants to a degree the MCU should absolutely emulate when the time comes to reboot the X-Men in the post-Doomsday/Secret Wars landscape.
