We’re then quickly introduced to four eligible bachelors and a pair of ill-suited lovers, who are all the same characters from a famous European New Year’s Eve sketch, and told by the narrator that this entire series is a prequel to that beloved bit of comedy. But as Sophie prepares to charm these men and get them fighting for the honor of becoming her husband, she and James continue to fight unresolved feelings and a seemingly impossible romance that’s forbidden by their rule-based, propriety-obsessed society.
