It wasn't just that a massive amount of time and resources had been invested in the superweapon; some of the Empire's best and brightest died there as well, including Grand Moff Tarkin, who Palpatine believed could have won the Galactic Civil War. This is the beauty of Star Wars: Visions; it's an opportunity for the best animators to flex their creative muscles and tell Star Wars stories that are a little more... unusual. The setting is really super detailed, and the stormtroopers, drawing out the action in the battle scenes, it was really quite an arduous task for the animators.
