Executives from Global Partners, one of the bidders to operate the state’s 18 highway service plazas, expressed their concerns to the MassDOT Board of Directors on Wednesday, warning regulators that they were about to approve minutes from a previous meeting that contained falsehoods about the bidding process. Slifka went on to tell the board that he’s concerned that the bid submitted by Applegreen indicates that they plan to pursue the funding required to perform $750 million worth of revitalization at the service plazas, and that they’ll likely have to go to the bond market to find that cash. Robert Etchingham, CEO of Applegreen, told the board that he usually prefers to let his company’s work speak for them, but that the number of accusations coming their way from Global Partners has grown so large that he felt the need to address the matter directly.
