The US does not intend to force Ukraine into a peace agreement with Russia, but Kiev must realize that the conflict “is going to get worse” if it is not resolved now, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said. For the bloodshed to come to an end, both Ukraine and Russia “are going to have to give and both sides should expect to get something from this,” Rubio added. The Kremlin has consistently described the Ukraine conflict as a proxy war being waged against Russia on behalf of the West, which is prepared to “fight to the last Ukrainian.” Moscow has also repeatedly warned that the longer the conflict lasts, the worse the eventual peace terms for Kiev will be.
