Marvin Levy, Steven Spielberg's Publicist and an Oscar Recipient, Dies at 96 When he was a PR branch member, the amiable Kahn invented the splendid Oscar Nominees Luncheon, which was first held in 1982, and a few years later, he inaugurated the tradition of gifting each honoree with a sweatshirt emblazoned with the Oscar logo. The Academy apologized for the unauthorized use of the character and for “unintentionally creating the impression that Disney had participated in or sanctioned” the production number. At Columbia, he helped market such top-notch films as The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), The Guns of Navarone (1961), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), A Man for All Seasons (1966), Funny Girl (1968) and Oliver!
