Health care workers and activists on Tuesday demanded that the head of defense contractor Lockheed Martin be removed from Mass General Brigham’s board of directors, saying Israel’s use of his company’s weapons in Gaza flies in the face of what a health system stands for. “I was absolutely horrified, just absolutely aghast, to learn that someone who is profiteering off of war and destruction could be counseling one of the most world-renowned medical institutions on its most important financial, staffing, and health care decisions that affect all of us,” said Jennifer Brody, a primary care physician practicing in Boston and one of the organizers of the protest. Those supporting the petition said they feel Taiclet’s seat on the board contradicts MGB’s mission and responsibility to protect health and human life due to his company’s weapons’ role in the destruction and loss of life in Gaza.
