The West Bank is the land between the eastern edge of Israel and the western side of the River Jordan and is home to an estimated three million Palestinians. Israel has occupied the West Bank - which Palestinians want as part of any future state - since the Six Day War of 1967, and is continuing to build settlements in the area. Israeli far-right ministers in the coalition government have recently said that the approval of 22 new Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank would "prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger Israel".
