With an outpouring of community support and contributions from individuals across Philadelphia, Woodmere purchased the estate in October 2021 and endowed its maintenance, renaming the residence Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art and Education, in honor of the artist and philanthropist who served on Woodmere’s board of trustees, Frances M. Maguire (1935 – 2020). Following the establishment of the Brand X Editions Archive at the PMA, made possible through the gift of more than 400 screenprints from Robert Blanton and Brand X Editions in 2024, the exhibition provides an important record of the medium and adds to the PMA’s extensive holdings of early screenprints. As the final stop in an ambitious tour organized with the Centre Pompidou in Paris—and the sole venue in the United States—the PMA will tell the story of Surrealist art, spotlighting the makers who sought out new expressive forms to expand the reach of the creative imagination.
