In a statement, the council condemned the destruction of the statue as an "attack on the entire Walgett community". Mr Ward said the damage to the statue came less than a month after another act of vandalism to a fountain in the same memorial park. In the meantime, the council will review security arrangements for the memorial park and support the police investigation.
