A Mardi Gras spokesperson rejected the claim the party was "disastrously organised" and said the choice to pause the event was a "deliberate and responsible decision to ... ensure the long-term sustainability of Mardi Gras as a whole". After a break due to the pandemic, the event came back for WorldPride in 2023, with the official party held at the Hordern and surrounds, as well as in the years since. The two directors, also a part of PiP, were censured by the board over the unofficial use of their email accounts to campaign against the organisation's refusal to implement motions, including for transgender rights in the parade.
