No legal provision to dump trash on doorsteps, say Bengaluru lawyers


Bengaluru: Legal experts have criticised the city's latest waste management initiative, declaring that dumping garbage in front of the homes of offenders is unlawful and contrary to municipal norms.The Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) recently launched ‘Kasa Suriyuva Habba', a campaign aimed at shaming residents who dispose of household waste in public places. "We went to court against that too," he added.Mohan called for scientific handling of waste and strict adherence to the Solid Waste Management Rules framed by the Union govt.Advocate Vasanth Adithya described the campaign as "ridiculous". Keeping it overnight attracts stray dogs and creates a mess," she said, urging officials to streamline waste collection instead.Asked specifically about what provisions allow the civic body to dump garbage at offenders' doorsteps and the legal status of the drive, GBA chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao did not specify if the drive would be discontinued.
