While action movies have existed since the silent era, the modern genre arose in the 1960s and 1970s, with the most modern version of the genre fully establishing itself in the 1980s. India is easily one of the biggest film industries in the world, and Hindi films are a large part of the industry (India also produces many Telugu and Tamil films, among others). Silent films started to be made in the late 1800s; however, many early films don’t really feel like “movies.” The first “feature-length” film, The Story of the Kelly Gang, was released in 1906, ushering in a more recognizable era of cinema.
