According to the report, Gantz, who joined the government at the onset of the war and subsequently resigned , consulted with political officials regarding the offer to return to the government to facilitate a hostage deal. The consultations centered around the question of whether the move would be right for Gantz, especially in light of Smotrich and Ben Gvir's opposition to a partial deal that would not return all the hostages. So far, the politicians in the opposition have spoken about providing a "safety net" which would support Netanyahu in agreeing to a hostage deal, but recently, the possibility of Gantz joining the government under certain conditions arose.
