Mumbai: Pointing out that the amount was huge and that there has been an increase in such "digital arrest" offences, a magistrate's court recently rejected the bail pleas of six accused allegedly involved in one of the biggest cyber heists in which a 72-year-old businessman dealing in stocks lost Rs 58 crore.The scam, involving 'digital arrest,' saw the accused allegedly impersonating officers from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to defraud the man and his wife. Brothers Arjun and Jetharam submitted that they did not own company used for the transfer of the defrauded amount.The magistrate, however, said that that prima facie evidence showed the accounts of the accused had been used for the commission of the crime. At the same time, he was kept in fear of digital arrest….Prima facie, the record shows that the account of the applicant has been used for commission of the crime," the magistrate said in one of the orders.
