Foreign Affairs, a well-known forum for discussion of American foreign policy and global affairs, has issued a serious warning to Israel regarding Türkiye’s growing influence in Syria, stating: “Your power is exhausted, conflict with Erdoğan will be your disaster.” This rising influence has alarmed Israel, with the analysis cautioning against military confrontation with Türkiye. Israel’s strategies, which extend well beyond its borders and minority groups, envision a future for Syria characterised by enduring fragmentation, raising the question of how much longer Israel can operate in Turkey’s shadow, and whether Israel’s perilous expansion in Syria could ultimately lead to its downfall… On December 8, the incoming President Donald Trump declared on social media that “Syria is a mess” and that “THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.” On April 18, the U.S. government announced that it would reduce the number of troops it has stationed in eastern Syria from around 2,000 to under 1,000.
