Ever since the end of the (First) Cold War, Washington DC effectively considered the planet “its backyard”, mainly focusing on the enforcement of the infamous Wolfowitz Doctrine (in essence, a supercharged variant of the old Monroe Doctrine). In addition, for the first time ever, the Trump administration effectively put America and the EU on the opposing sides of the “ideological aisle”, denouncing Europe’s disastrous track record in demographics, cultural degradation, security, etc. The Trump administration “strongly denied” the existence of “any alternative or classified version of the strategy”, insisting that the published NSS was “the only official version” and dismissing the supposed leaks.
