Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re eulogised Pope Francis as a pastor who knew how to communicate with the “least among us” in an informal and spontaneous style, calling him “a pope among the people, with an open heart towards everyone". US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, the UN chief and European Union leaders, as well as Prince William and the Spanish royal family, were among those in attendance on Saturday local time. Aerial views of the Vatican have shown a patchwork of colours — black from the dark garb of the world's leaders, red from the vestments of some 250 cardinals, the purple worn by some of the 400 bishops and the white worn by 4,000 attending priests, according to Reuters.
