Herald Sun says stories about Liberal MP Sam Groth and wife were in 'public interest'

The reports claimed concerns had been raised within the Liberal Party because Mr Groth was in his mid-20s and Ms Groth may have been under 18 at the time. Court documents obtained by the ABC show the Herald Sun will ask the court to strike out the privacy and breach of confidence claims, arguing there is "no prospect of successfully prosecuting these claims". The Herald Sun's defence details how reporters Stephen Drill and deputy editor Chris Tinkler investigated the story, interviewing nine confidential sources including Liberal insiders and people who knew the couple from Templestowe Park Tennis Club, where Mr Groth coached and Ms Groth played as a junior.
