After the collapse of the Soviet Union and Georgia’s return to independence in 1991, Russian backed separatist groups engaged in ethnic cleansing of Georgians from the Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions of the country. “So my reaction to someone taking this like a joke when in that war many innocent people died – we’re talking about children and people who had nothing to do with that ... It’s also a painful subject for me because family members of mine died in that war and many countrymen of mine.” The two did run into each other in the lobby of the fighter hotel, resulting in a near-brawl that saw Pimblett throw a bottle of hand sanitizer in Topuria’s face.
