At around 3 A.M. on Thursday night, most of Israel awoke to the piercing, blaring sound of an emergency alert on their phones, followed by the news that Israel had just conducted strikes in Iran. It seemed impossible to believe, and besides the early hour, that this "preemptive strike" was made against a country with a vast stockpile of ballistic missiles and attack drones. It was time to prepare the safe rooms and shelters, check supplies, and make sure our family and friends had reached safety before the long night, or week, or month ahead.
