On the most recent episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast, Spade claimed that “Christmas is taking a little bit of a beating lately,” possibly because he hasn’t set foot inside of a shopping mall, a drug store or a retail environment of any kind in the past two months. A ‘December to Remember?’ Is it a Lexus dealership?” Spade sarcastically questioned after not bothering to look up the fact that trees were brought indoors to celebrate the winter solstice long before Christianity became a thing. It sure appears as though Spade is simply confused, and was describing a recent news story about Portland, Oregon's tree lighting ceremony at Pioneer Courthouse Square – which, last time we checked, is not “some dopey mall.” Since the tree was referred to as a “holiday tree,” Fox and others blasted the event as an example of wokeness run amok.
