Based on the novel Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert, Dune: Part Three will see Chalamet’s Paul Atreides “dealing with the consequences of having too much power, and he is trying to figure out how to get out of this cycle of violence,” according to Villeneuve. After spending the first two movies as the underdog fighting for survival, Paul is now Emperor of the known universe, and it’s made him into exactly the kind of tyrant he was supposed to defeat, with the holy war he unleashed in his name has killed billions. While he’s not the traditional villain, but he’s not the hero anymore either, and the first teaser for the film sets that up, with his partner Chani (Zendaya) seemingly taking up arms and squaring off against him in the final frames of the trailer.
