Mr Cosgrove said when DBCA took responsibility for coordinating the firefighting response, the department would not allow its machinery into the reserve to cut fire breaks and fight the fire. Peter Horwood believes efforts to control the fire and the loss of the reserve to the region would total millions. Ms Obst and Mr Cosgrove agreed the ADF had a responsibility to give clarity about the level of danger the ordnance in Depot Hill posed, and to remove any potential unexploded ordnance still on the site.
