'Exhausted, hungry, and scared': What it's like to be a journalist in Gaza


At least 197 journalists and media workers have been killed since the war in Gaza began following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 - 189 of them Palestinians killed by Israel in Gaza, according to the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Ahed Farwana of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate in Gaza told the BBC that he and his colleagues felt targeted by Israeli forces "which leaves us in constant fear for our own safety and that of our families". The Israeli military said on Tuesday that, after an initial inquiry, "it appears" troops struck "a camera that was positioned by Hamas in the area of the Nasser Hospital that was being used to observe the activity of [Israeli] troops".
