Columbus and Spain were in search of a better route to Asia, but what they found was a New World with incredible amounts of gold and silver. Writer Aldous Huxley famously wrote, “That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.” So unlike in 16th century Spain, where a flood of gold and silver were the problem, today they are part of the solution.
