Edo: A state at war with its development

It is against this backdrop that the recent controversy surrounding the alleged revocation of the certificate of occupancy of Presco, Nigeria’s leading oil palm investor, by the Edo State government, as published in the Vanguard and the Nigerian Observer newspapers of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, is deeply troubling. This posture runs directly against President Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places economic development and agricultural investment at the centre of Nigeria’s growth strategy, an agenda that the governor has publicly vowed to implement to its fullest in the state. I, therefore, urge the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to do the right thing: preserve the core of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu by protecting and encouraging extant and potential investors, uphold the commitments of the state, and ensure that political actors do not destroy what has taken decades to build.
