I haven't even seen this season yet, I was waiting for it to end in order to binge it - but I got spoiled so I went to watch the video clip and all I could do was gasp "WHAT" over and over... But the fact that they don't, it gives all the standalone eps a sense of "on with the next", which makes the Doctor come across more and more like a sociopath--which isn't a problem if that's what they were going for, but it clearly wasn't! There's no room for a dud of an episode (and most seasons have at least two), and there's no time to get to know the Doctor or to develop their companions or the relationship the companions have to them.
