Detroit Tigers’ Trio Leads Prospect-Packed 2025 All-Star Futures Game


He started his career at age 17 in the Negro Leagues in 1942, served in World War II in 1945, then came back in 1946 at age 23 to have a fabulous season for the Newark Eagles. He hit .365 with 52 RBI in 59 games to lead the club past the mighty Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro League World Series. The only player to win the award in his “home” ballpark was catcher Hank Conger of the Los Angeles Angels in 2010 after hitting a three-run homer.
